Mabasa still has national ambitions─── MORGAN PIEK 12:48 Thu, 16 Aug 2018
The Bloemfontein Celtic striker, Tshego Mabasa, has his sights set on returning to the national side. The 21-year-old Mabasa, who has represented Bafana Bafana once in the past, has started his season on a high note with two goals in two starts.
Over the past two seasons, Mabasa has had limited opportunities at Celtic, however, he wants to cement his spot in the starting side.
Mabasa told OFM Sport that he knows he still has work to do in order to impress Stuart Baxter.
“For me it really special to score two goals in two goals, but I have to work on my finishing.
“I feel like that I could have scored more goals, even at this early stage of the league, but I am still proud of what I have been able to achieve thus far.
“I just have to keep on working hard and reach the target that I have set out for myself. I also want to see myself get back into the national team and I can only do that through performing.”
Meanwhile, Celtic, are back in action again on Sunday when they host the Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates.
Celtic have won both of their games in the league to date, while the Buccaneers have a win, a draw and a defeat in their first three games. On top of that they were knocked out of the MTN 8 on penalties to SuperSport United.
Mabasa added that their good form definitely helps with the confidence going into their tricky third round fixture.
“The way we have started the season is a bit of confidence booster.
“To get a six points from a possible six is really special, but it all comes down to the preseason and the preparations.
“It has only been two matches, so for us it is all about keeping the momentum ticking. We just have keep up the hard working, keep performing and just do what we’ve got to do to the best our ability.”
Bloemfontein Celtic face Orlando Pirates on Sunday afternoon at the Toyota Stadium. Kick-off for this match is at 15:00.
