“We’ve worked hard and we know what we’re going to be up against. It’s not going to help up by stressing about it or anything like that. We’re just focusing on what we need to do and the ultimate focus in the group is to be well prepared.”

The Springboks will be targeting a fast start to the Rugby Championship when they tackle the Wallabies at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Saturday.

The four-time World Champions will be seeking a very rare win in the capital of Queensland, while by the same token, they have their sights set on a first Rugby Championship title since 2019. The Wallabies under Joe Schmidt will be a different prospect to deal with, but an experienced as well as exciting Boks squad has been named for the Test.

For South Africa to stand a chance of winning the title a fast and strong start will be important, although it certainly does help that they tackle the All Blacks in a double-header in South Africa later in the competition.

The Sharks-linked Springbok captain, Siya Kolisi, said for now everything goes into the Test in Brisbane and a fast start is important. “You can't win the Rugby Championship by winning these two games, but you can lose it by not doing well in these two games,” said Kolisi.

“The most important for us is this one here in Brisbane. We always say that if we lose the first one, we can get up in the second game, but we need to be up for it from the word go this coming weekend.”

Kolisi added that for them it was important to just prepare as well as they can and not overthink things as they target a first win in the Queen City of the North since 2013.

“We’ve worked hard and we know what we’re going to be up against. It’s not going to help us by stressing about it or anything like that. We’re just focusing on what we need to do and the ultimate focus in the group is to be well prepared.

“We're just trying to not overthink things and just focus on the job at hand.”
