“So I think there's a couple of the Shimlas guys will play on the weekend and one or two of the Ospreys guys that's been with us will play again.

The Toyota Cheetahs will be fielding more Shimlas Varsity Cup stars this week when they face the Border Bulldogs in round seven of the SA Cup, while a few seasoned player could be back in action again.

The Shimlas captain Pierre Uys, the centre Jooste Nel and flyhalf Ethan Wentzel have been training with the team of late, while Neels Volschenk played last week against the Valke.

In addition to these players, some more players will be available for selection after recovering from injury, this includes Cohen Jasper who injured his ankle during the EPCR Challenge Cup. There has been a hit that there could be one or two sup

The Cheetahs coach, Izak van der Westhuizen, told OFM Sport that is their last chance to experiment.

“I think this is the last opportunity for us to really experiment before the Griquas,” said Van der Westhuizen.

“So I think there's a couple of the Shimlas guys will play on the weekend and one or two of the Ospreys guys that's been with us will play again.

“But while saying that, while we're giving them opportunity, like I said, I think most of the guys playing this weekend will definitely be available next week again for the Griquas match.”

Van der Westhuizen added that he was more than happy with the debut of Volschenk and feels the youngster will just get better going forward.

“I think he's a typical Free State loose forward - he puts his nose down and he works. So, I loved it, I think he had a very good start.

“He was physical when he needed to be, and he is still finding his feet within the setup, but I think he ticked all the boxes expected of him.”

Friday afternoon’s match at Police Park in East London kicks off at 15:00.
