“They have always been and will always be one of the top unions in South Africa, so I feel honoured to be there.”

The Toyota Cheetahs have added another new player to their roster and this time they have bolstered their second-row.

The former Griquas captain, Pieter van Vuren, will be joining the Cheetahs, providing some much-needed depth to their second-row.

The 32-year-old lock has previously also played for the Pumas and the Lions, while he played in one game for the Griffons.

In 2018 Van Vuren captained the Griquas to the SuperSport Rugby Challenge final. The were however beaten 32-30 by the Pumas in the final which was played in Oudtshoorn.

Van Vuren becomes latest player to join the Cheetahs the confirmation of several new faces last week.

The were the Springbok winger, Sbu Nkosi, as well as Marco Janse van Vuren from the Bulls. In addition they signed James Verity-Amm, as well as as Sisonke Vumazonke and Banie Britz.

Van Vuren told OFM Sport that he is excited to head back to South Africa and he cannot wait to make a positive contribution at the Cheetahs.

“My family and I are very excited to come back to South Africa,” said Van Vuren.

“I'm very excited and grateful for the opportunity at the Cheetahs. We're excited to move to Bloem and the countryside again. We're just looking forward to it.

“Obviously playing in the European Championship or Champions Cup is a bonus, and we all agree that the Cheetahs do deserve to play in a big competition, and it's a pity that it’s not possible at the moment.

“They have always been and will always be one of the top unions in South Africa, so I feel honoured to be there.

“I know a few guys there and I cannot wait to meet the other guys I don't know. I cannot wait to get to work and hopefully I make a positive contribution.”

Van Vuren is currently in France where he played for Biarritz.
