Cheetahs impressed with Nkosi's professionalism─── MORGAN PIEK 08:10 Wed, 06 Mar 2024
“You can see he is a professional - he has been around the block and he knows what it is about. I'm looking forward to seeing him on the field again.”
It has taken little time for the Springbok winger, Sbu Nkosi, to impress his new team the Toyota Cheetahs.
The former Bulls and Sharks speedster agreed to an initial one-year deal at the Cheetahs as he attempts to revive his once promising career.
Nkosi’s career was in limbo after his departure from the Bulls following his well-documented mental health struggles.
Nkosi has already started training with the Cheetahs and there are big expectations of the player.
The Cheetahs coach, Izak van der Westhuizen, told OFM Sport that Nkosi has already made a positive impact at the team.
“He has slotted it very well here at the Cheetahs,” said Van der Westhuizen.
“From day one he has made a positive impact at the team. He does extras on his own, standing in meetings while answering questions.
“You can see he is a professional - he has been around the block and he knows what it is about.
“I'm looking forward to seeing him on the field again.”
Nkosi has looked good during the Cheetahs training sessions and he appears to be well-conditioned and in good shape.
He may get his first run in a Cheetahs jersey on Saturday and they will head to Jacobsdal where they will tackle the Griquas in a SA Cup warm-up game. Van der Westhuizen will name his team for this match on Thursday.
Nkosi has represented the Springboks in 16 Tests and has scored 9 tries. He was part of the Springbok team that won the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
