Cheetahs pride themselves on solid defence─── MORGAN PIEK 08:13 Fri, 14 Apr 2023
The Toyota Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, has emphasised the importance of their defence for Saturday’s Currie Cup game against Western Province in Cape Town.
With the Cheetahs having played in Europe until recently, a lot of emphasis has been placed on their defence recently and this has contributed to good results.
The young Western Province side will be full of running and the Cheetahs will counter that with their defence.
The Cheetahs coach, Hawies Fourie, told OFM Sport that their defence will be up to the task. “Defensively we are satisfied with how we defend," said Fourie.
“Our physicality, tackle, fight, and line speed are all in place, so trust our defence and our kicking game is also important.
“We are also always working on our attack to keep improving. We are improving game-by-game and we implemented a new system before the Currie Cup started.
“It takes a bit of time for everyone to get used to their role in our shape, but I am excited by the opportunities and number of line-breaks that we create on attack.
“It's just a case of executing well and finishing those opportunities a little bit better.”
Saturday’s game at the Cape Town Stadium will kick off at 15:00.
