100 up for Arendse─── MORGAN PIEK 08:12 Fri, 06 Nov 2020
The Tafel Lager Griquas great, Ederies Arendse, will be playing his 100th match for the team when they run out against the Stormers on Saturday afternoon in the SuperRugby Unlocked series.
The Stormers captain and Springbok loosehead prop, Steven Kitshoff, will also be bringing up his century for the Cape Town-based franchise.
The Peacock Blues captain for the game, Zak Burger, told OFM Sport that Arendse is not just a Griquas legend.
“Ederies Arendse will get his 100th cap for the Griquas when we play against the Stormers. He is an absolute legend, not just for the Griquas, but also for Kimberley.
“On and off the field he has been a great leader and mentor for some of the younger guys.
“I’m very proud of him and hopefully we can put up a good performance for his 100th game.”
Griquas coach, Scott Mathie, in his turn told OFM Sport that Arendse has been a great servant for the Peacock Blues.
“Firstly, on Ederies, it’s a massive occasion for him.
“There are only a few players who have been able to put on 100 caps for their province, so we are really proud of him.
“He is looking forward to it. He has been a great servant of the Griquas, so he fully deserves that.”
Saturday’s match at Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley kicks off at 16:30. Meanwhile, this evening at 19:00, the Sharks and Toyota Cheetahs go head-to-head in Durban.
