The soon to be new Tafel Lager Griquas coach, Brent Janse van Rensburg, has reported for duty with the team ahead of their final Currie Cup match of the 2018 campaign.

The Griquas will entertain the Sharks in Kimberley on Saturday in what will be the last of fixtures ahead of the play-offs.

The Griquas are known for upsetting the Sharks in Kimberley, and they will be targeting more of the same, as they will also bid farewell to Peter Engeldow before he moves back to the Cape, where he will take charge of Paarl Boys’ High.

A win with a bonus point may see that the Griquas leapfrog Janse van Rensburg’s former team, the Pumas, in the sixth spot on the overall standings.

Some two weeks ago, Engeldow’s assistant, Pieter Bergh, also parted ways with the team, leaving them a little thin without the assistance of Janse van Rensburg.

“We are super excited for the weekend and it is important for the players and us to finish on a high,” Engeldow told OFM Sport.

“We understand that it is going to be very difficult, but we have a job to do and professional coaches and athletes.

“We are focusing on what we need to get right against the Sharks, and we hope that will struggle in Kimberley heat, and that we can put in a good performance for our fans and finish on a high.”

Engeldow added that Janse van Rensburg has joined the technical staff for this week and that it is important for the team to impress their new tactician.

“It is important for the players who are staying to make an impression on Brent, who is the new coach. At the same time, it’s been great having him here this week and being involved and helping us with our prep for the Sharks.

“It has been a difficult couple of months for the coaching staff, but like as said, we have a job to do on Saturday and I am looking for to going out on a high in my last game at the Griquas.”

Saturday’s game between the Griquas and Sharks at Tafel Lager Park in Kimberley kicks off at 15:00.
