Grey College established themselves as the team to beat this year in South African Schools rugby after retaining their unbeaten run in 2018 with a comprehensive 62-22 mauling of Selborne College from East London.

Grey were expected to win the game in Bloemfontein on Saturday, however, their shock loss to Selborne a year ago left doubt in some minds.

The 2018 schools' rugby season is building to what will be the climax when Grey host Paul Roos Gymnasium on 18 August in Bloemfontein. There is still a lot of rugby left for both teams to play, however, with both sides' current form, it is expected that the match in the City of Roses will determine which team will finish the season unbeaten.

There are no official rankings in South Africa due to the complex nature of school leagues across the nation. Taking into account the quality of opposition the two teams have faced thus far, Grey do have the slight edge as the number one team, due to their impressive win a week prior to end Paarl Boys' High School's massive unbeaten run.

The really positive news for Grey as well as Paul Roos, is that they will have good teams next year as well. This is due to both sides having fielded quality U16 teams last year.

Grey do face another stern challenge this weekend with the school travelling once again. This week is the annual match between Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool (Affies) and Grey in Pretoria. The Wit Bulle's form this season has been debatable, and there are numerous games the team should have won but that ended up on the wrong end of the score line.

Regardless of the form by Affies, one thing is a given, and that is that the side from the capital city switches on when they tackle Grey.

The clash between Affies and Grey's 1st teams is a classic clash game and will be televised from 13:55 on Saturday afternoon on SuperSport10. Proceeding this game, the huge fixture between Paul Roos and Boishaai will be broadcast with kick-off at 12:10.
