Messages of condolences are continuing to pour in for the family of celebrated Bothaville farmer, Bully Bothma, who succumbed to Covid-19 related complications this week.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State is amongst those reflecting back on 71-year-old Bothma’s contributions not only to the agriculture industry during his time as the Chairman of Nampo and Grain SA, as well as the Vice-President of Agri SA, but also for the time spent serving his community as a local Councillor.

Leader of the DA in the province, Roy Jankielsohn, says Bothma has been a Ward Councillor in Bothaville since 2011.

He adds that Bothma “served his community and agricultural sector with distinction and his wisdom and guidance will be missed”.

OFM News spoke to the 71-year-old’s friend - Japie Grobler - following word of his death on Thursday, June 24. Grobler describes him as a people’s man who had a great passion for agriculture and his fellow man.

The prominent farmer and politician’s death has been met with great shock by the agriculture industry at both provincial and national level. Details of his burial are unknown at this stage.
