Ntombela calls for calm following Winburg protests─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 08:42 Sat, 17 Apr 2021
Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela says service delivery concerns raised by the residents of Winburg are being attended to.
Communities in this small town outside Bloemfontein took to the streets in the week to protest against the lack of municipal services, including sustainable water supply. They barricaded roads with burning tyres and stones.
Ntombela says she notes their concerns and can assure the public that the water crisis experienced in many municipalities across the province is receiving attention.
She, in a statement, says there is currently a R24 million water treatment plant project, which is being implemented in Winburg since 2019 and it is expected to be concluded in July 2021.
Ntombela has called for calm among the community of Winburg stating that “the Free State Provincial Government is currently engaged in a massive water infrastructure development programmes across the various municipalities in the province”.
