Bloemfontein - Maize prices continue to come under pressure with July contract prices for white maize dipping to a mere R1700 per ton on Friday.
According to the latest Grain SA morning market commentary report, both yellow and white maize showed losses in excess of R200 during trade on Friday. The July contract price for yellow maize closed at R1 841.
The market fluctuations come as the Rand hit its best level in nearly two years to trade at around R12.45 to the US dollar on Friday.
Grain SA says maize, soybeans and wheat all ended the day lower. This is largely due to the stronger Rand, as well as good local harvest prospects.
