#BreakingNews: Embattled #Koffiefontein mayor resigns | News Article

After the rampant violent protests in troubled Koffiefontein in the Free State since at least 2016, the mayor of Letsemeng local municipality has finally decided to resign.

This mayor is expected to officially make this proclamation during a community meeting on Monday morning. Her resignation follows after the African National Congress’ (ANC) intervention when residents on several occasions made it public that they were going to boycott the upcoming elections on 8 May 2019. On Sunday the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Provincial Working Committee (PWC) met with residents to give them feedback on a report submitted by the ANC deputy Secretary General, Jessie Duarte, after she also met irate residents on their demands last week.

One of the local residents, Monaheng Khomojong, tells OFM News that they will believe the news on Reachable resigning when she formally resigns at the meeting today.  Khomojong says the resignation of Reachable is not enough.

Monaheng says, amongst others, NEC and PWC members who visited the area on Sunday include the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Siyabonga Cwele, FS premier, Sisi Ntombela, and ANC Chairperson, Sam Mashinini.
