The North West premier is today set to meet with aggrieved residents of Ramokokastad near Rustenburg.

Premier Job Mokgoro’s meeting with the affected communities from villages in and around Ramokokastad follows his decision to appoint an Administrator for the Baphalane Traditional Community.

In a statement, the Office of the Premier says this community meeting will also provide an opportunity for Provincial Departments to present their intervention plans. OFM News previously reported that violence gripped the community which resulted in the destruction of public property including schools, clinics, and the Baphalane Traditional Offices.

This after a standoff between the BaPhalane Traditional Council and the local residents who accuse the council of maladministration.

OFM News previously reported that Mokgoro told the community that the intervention measures included the appointment of investigators with clear terms of references relating to issues raised around the administration and good governance.

Two schools - Kwenatlase High School and Baphalane Primary School - were torched during the protests.

Schools, clinics and bus transport were shut down or disrupted as villagers want Kgosi Joy Ramokoka to be suspended following allegations of maladministration, demanding an administrator take over the running of the village. Concerned parents said they were unable to enroll their children in other schools for the new year.
