Moqhaka commits to Eskom payment plan─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:01 Thu, 06 Dec 2018
The executive mayor of Moqhaka Local Municipality in the Free State, Tshidi Koloi, confirms the municipality is amongst the Free State municipalities battling to settle their Eskom debt.
This, as municipalities in the province are said to remain the biggest defaulters and collectively owe the power utility more than R7.8 billion (which is the highest amount owed by municipalities throughout the country). Koloi, has however, told OFM News that they met with the power utility last week to discuss their payment plan and has committed to pay the electricity supplier R12 million over a period of 12 months. Koloi has further appealed to residents to pay their rates and taxes and commended those who pay for their continuous support. Koloi adds that they have, thus far, not defaulted on their payment and are pleased they will not be amongst the municipalities whose power supply might be interrupted in the near future.
The power utility has recently sent notices to several municipalities across the country about its intentions to interrupt their power supply due to non-payment during this festive season in efforts to recover the over R17 billion they are owed.
