Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and the Head of Department, Dr David Motau, at the Free State Department of Health allegedly both received bribes exceeding R300 000 from one of the suspects in the ongoing murder trial of Louis Siemens.

This was revealed in a statement filed in court, where Bakili revealed that he paid R154 000 and R150 000 to Motsoaledi and Motau respectively in November last year. Bakili, who was a business partner to 52-year-old Siemens at the CitiMed Day Clinic, alleged that these bribes were paid into the bank accounts of the said officials so that they would help fast-track licences required to expand the said clinic.

Meanwhile, DA leader in the Free State, Patricia Kopane, said in a statement issued earlier this week by her office that she has written to Motsoaledi for him to account on the matter. She further said that her party has given him until next week Monday to respond and they will report him to Parliament’s Ethics Committee for further investigations should he fail to respond by then. OFM News has sent a set of questions to the provincial spokesperson of the said Department, Mondli Mvambi, and at the time this article was published, these had not yet been received. OFM News will do a follow-up article following receipt of their comment on this matter.
