#Dihlabeng municipal trip abroad raises questions─── JOSCA HUMAN 07:34 Mon, 03 Sep 2018
The Dihlabeng Local Municipality in the Free State has sneaked in an overseas trip to Brazil.
The trip started on September 1 and ends on September 11, ostensibly to garner investment into the municipality. The trip allegedly cost over R400 000 for the mayor and four municipal officials.
According to DA councillor in the Municipality, Eric Motloung, the last council sitting to approve the trip was on August 31, however, it did not take place. This as opposition parties in the council stood together and decided to stage a walk-out. This left the meeting without enough councillors to form a quorum.
Questions have been raised as to whether investors would invest in a municipality that is in debt more than R179 million.
Meanwhile, OFM News previously reported that the municipality says it is in the dark regarding opposition parties’ reasons for walking out of the special council meeting.
