The state of Free State healthcare system is on the verge of collapse if it has not already collapsed.

This is according to the Positive Active Campaign, an organisation advocating for access to quality healthcare services.

It’s general secretary, Sello Mokhalipi, told OFM News shortage of critical medication, shortage of doctors, and inadequate resources are amongst some the issues still plaguing the province.

This comes days after the Human Science Research Council (HSRC)’s survey indicated that the Free State is amongst the top three provinces with the highest HIV prevalence in the age group of 15-49 years.

Mokhalipi says it is appalling that the state of health in the province is on a downward spiral, despite the department receiving the bulk of the provincial budget year on year.

He adds that the department urgently needs to improve service delivery, review their HIV/AIDS programmes and ensure that all facilities are adequately equipped.
