No arrests made yet in botched NW cash-in-transit-heist─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 13:08 Tue, 19 Jun 2018

No arrests have been in connection with yesterday’s botched cash-in-transit heist on the N4 in Mooinooi in the North West.
National Police Spokesperson, Brenda Muridili, told OFM News an investigation into the attempt is underway, but remains mum on the number of suspects involved in the incident as well as the name of the cash in-transit (CIT) company to whom the armored van belonged.
Muridili explains the incident occurred yesterday near the Majakaneng off ramp just after 19:00 when an unknown number of suspects started firing at the CIT vehicle multiple times, in a bid to stop it, their plans were however thwarted by the driver of the vehicle.
According to Muridili, the vehicle came to a stop after one of the bullets hit the wheel. As the suspects approached the vehicle, the driver sped off and rushed to the nearest filling station for assistance. She says police are still in pursuit of the suspects involved.
This comes after it was revealed at a meeting between Parliament’s police portfolio committee and other stakeholders last week, that the North West is one of the provinces most affected by cash-in transit heists.
According to police statistics, the province joined Gauteng, Limpopo and Mpumalanga as provinces most afflicted by the recent spate of cash-in-transit heists in the country.
Yesterday’s heist comes nearly a month after nine armed people targeted a G4S Cash Solutions vehicle outside the Rustenburg in the North West – over 40 km outside Mooinooi - on Friday May 25.
