Dikgatlong Municipality to face 14-hour power outage─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:44 Mon, 11 Jun 2018
The Dikgatlong Municipality in the Northern Cape will face a 14-hour power interruption as of tomorrow due to non-payment of their Eskom debt.
Eskom spokesperson, Khulu Phasiwe, says the municipality owes the power utility over R60 million and will need to make urgent arrangements with the power supplier in order to avoid the planned power cuts.
Areas to be affected include Barkly West, Delportshoop, and Windsorton. The looming 14-hour power cut, comes just a few days after violent service delivery protests broke out in Barkly West. Residents in this area went on the rampage last week, blocked roads with stones and burned tyres, demanding answers from the management of the municipality. Police spokesperson, Sergio Kock, told OFM News the police monitored the situation closely and no arrests were made.
The municipality is yet to respond to OFM News’ enquires.
