Investigation launched after cattle truck crashes into Vaal River─── NOMAQHAWE MTEBELE 13:07 Thu, 22 Mar 2018
The South African Police Service are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a two-trailer truck transporting cattle fell into the Vaal River near Windsorton, Northern Cape.
The driver and one other person were injured after the truck crashed into a bridge and ended up in the water on Wednesday. The police’s Search and Rescue unit, Flying Squad, and emergency services were at the scene to rescue the people involved as well as help cattle from the wreckage. According to police’s Sergio Kock, no other vehicles were reportedly involved in the accident.
It took about two and a half hours for the Search and Rescue team to remove the driver and co-driver from the wrecked vehicle, according to Kock. They were then hospitalised in Kimberley. “Some of the cattle were submerged in the water but most of them were saved as well,” said Kock. A police investigation continues.
