NW: Police arrest Rustenburg conman─── MARK STEENBOK 16:06 Wed, 17 Jan 2018
The police in North West have arrested a 52-year-old conman from Rustenburg who allegedly used different methods and instruments to defraud members of the community and steal money from them.
Police spokesperson, Pelonomi Makau, told OFM News that the suspect was arrested on a charge of fraud in the Central Business District (CBD) yesterday.
She says the man allegedly pretended to be a professor, pastor and sangoma in an effort to steal money from people. Makau says the man also allegedly advised people to resign from their jobs in some instances while he promised members of the community that their money will multiply if they bring it to him.
She says the suspect was also found in possession of counterfeit notes, pamphlets and mini thatch huts.
She warned people not to fall for these scams.
“Members of the community are urged to be extra careful and avoid being victimised. They are also advised not to believe anyone who approaches them and promises to multiply their money. It is also important that they exercise caution about articles and advertisements that promise them quick wealth and happiness. An investigation into the matter, which includes linking the suspect with other cases, continues. The suspect is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on a charge of fraud,” says Makau.
