The passing of Morena e Moholo Thokoane Mopeli of the Bakoena clan is yet another blow of sadness and sorrow that hit the people of the Free State.
The Premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule, mourned the passing of the king of the Bakoena in a short message on social media yesterday.
Morena Mopeli was admitted to the 3 Military Hospital at Tempe in Bloemfontein on 6 December 2017, where he succumbed early on the morning of 2 January 2018.
"On behalf of the people of the Free State and the Free State Provincial Government, I wish to send our condolences to the Bakoena Royal Household, the Bakoena in general, and to the Free State House of Traditional Leaders for the passing of Morena e Moholo Mopeli. The passing of Morena e Moholo Mopeli is a painful shock to us.
"To the family of Morena Mopeli, we want you to know that we are together with you in this time of grief. Your loss is our loss.
"Morena Mopeli played an important role in the developmental relationship that the Free State Provincial Government had with the institution of traditional leadership. He played an important role in connecting government with the people that he led. May his soul rest in eternal peace."
