These were the words of the ANC Deputy Secretary General, Jesse Duarte. She was in Parys yesterday where she addressed about 300 delegates gathered to hear the announcement on their preferred candidate for the party’s elective conference. Duarte said the conference is the assertion of a change in the ANC’s ability to implement what they said they would do during the past Mangaung conference.

"And that is a second, more radical phase of our transition. People did not understand that at the time, and so the debate in our country about the structure of our economy is going to be the primary debate and discussion at this particular conference – more than any other,” Duarte added.

ANC Premier Ace Magashule was also present at the PGC meeting, and used his speaking opportunity to assert that the ANC would win the by-elections in Metsimaholo today with humility.

He added the ANC is prepared to work with anyone and has done so in the past, to govern successfully. He also said the ANC welcomed the South African Communist Party’s decision to contest the by-elections in Metsimaholo.

On the matter of today’s High Court judgement, Magashule said that while the ANC is not worried about the outcome, the party will respect any decision laid down by the court – as it has done in the past.

A group of ANC members made a third urgent application asking for the Provincial Executive Committee to be dissolved, citing alleged irregularities at branches in the provinces and the legitimacy thereof.
