Majakaneng roads open after violent protests─── NOMAQHAWE MTEBELE 11:12 Sun, 20 Aug 2017
Mahikeng - The N4, R104 and R566 roads are now open after being closed off in Majakaneng, North West.
The roads were closed since Tuesday, due to violent community protests after a farmer allegedly shot and injured 24-year-old Tebogo Ndlovu. Motorists were advised to use alternative roads. According to police’s Sabata Mokgwabone, they (police) are still monitoring the area.
“The roads were closed following a community protest. We can confirm that on this day the situation in Majakaneng is calm. The protests were not happening on the roads per se but members of the community were pelting passing motorists with stones so it was not safe for them and we had to close the roads,” Mokgwabone explains.
Two suspects aged 38 and 40 were arrested on charges of public violence during the protests last week. The suspects were allegedly involved in the pelting of passing motorists with stones, barricading of roads and burning of two trucks as well as a bakkie, according to Mokgwabone.
