MEC calls for restoration of calmness in Majakaneng, North West─── 07:52 Sat, 19 Aug 2017

Mahikeng - North West Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Dr Mpho Motlhabane, has appealed to the community of Majakaneng to calm down and allow the South African Police Service to thoroughly investigate a matter.
MEC Motlhabane’s appeal follows a week long protest that has erupted in Majakaneng near Bapong, were communities are accusing the citrus farmer for allegedly killing a man.
Allegations are that the citrus farmer shot at the three men who were allegedly stealing oranges on his farm. Two of the men managed to escaped but the third one has not been seen or heard of ever since the incidents.
“We humbly request communities of Majakaneng to stay calm and allow police to do a proper investigation. Police have confirmed that they have questioned the accused and are trying to obtain evidence that will be sufficient enough to warrant an arrest. They have searched the farm of the accused with all available resources but are hopeful that they will soon find something that will lead them to crack the investigation, but so far not enough has been found."
“All we need is for communities of Majakaneng to have confidence in our South African Police Service as they will leave no stone unturned as they investigate this matter,” said Motlhabane.
The MEC further requested communities to assist with any information that can ease police investigations.
Two trucks and a bakkie were burnt during the protest and passing motorists were pelted with stones. Ever since the protest erupted, the N4 road at Majakaneng has been closed. The police and traffic officers have, however, been deployed to the area to constantly monitor the situation and redirect motorists to safer alternative routes.
“We request motorists to just cooperate when diverted to alternative routes. This is for their own safety and our police and traffic officers will always be there to monitor the situation,” he concluded.
