Judgment on submissions in #DanishMutilator case to be heard─── MARK STEENBOK 11:27 Thu, 17 Aug 2017

Judgment on the submissions made this morning by both the state and defence during the trial of Danish national, Peter Frederiksen, will be heard shortly in the Bloemfontein High Court.
The trial of the alleged Danish mutilator continued this morning with arguments by both state prosecutor Amanda Bester and Frederiksen's attorney, Marius Bruwer. Bester told the court during her submission that Frederiksen's diaries were only seized on 2 October 2015 because it was in Danish and was handed over by his shop assistant, known as Reggie.
Bruwer argued that Reggie had no authority to do so. Bester, however, told the court in her submission that Reggie was in charge of Frederiksen's business, drove his car, looked after his house and was in charge of his bank accounts after he was arrested, and thus had the authority.
Bruwer argued that one or two diaries were seized on the day of Frederiksen's arrest and the others only later. Bruwer says that his client's version of what happened on the day of his arrest is more probable and that the Hawks' Eben van Zyl only remembered minor details.
He says that it is a probability that the search warrants were in a car like the Hawks testified earlier. He is also concerned about the fact that Du Plessis Street was not written on the search warrant. He says there was also no search warrant for Frederiksen's cell phones to be confiscated.
He added that there is something fishy with the affidavit. The trial continues. Frederiksen stands accused on 58 charges, including the possession and production of child pornography, and the unlawful removal and possession of human tissue.
