ANC Regional Secretary, Paseka Nompondo, says those found guilty of damage to state property during the protests must face the full might of the law. Police arrested 14 people in relation to the strike action and they will appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court this morning.

Nompondo says the municipality must take disciplinary action against its employees if they are found to be perpetrators of any violence during the demonstrations.

“We characterise those who have been involved in this madness of looting, burning and damaging property as nothing else but petty thugs who are taking advantage of genuine labour issues as advocated by Samwu. As a leader of society, the ANC wishes to apologise to all residents and the business community who have been inconvenienced by these incidents.”

Nompondo has appealed for calm in the Mangaung while the party attempts to make interventions in ensuring the labour dispute matters are resolved.
