Bloemfontein - The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State has raised concerns about the instability in the Mangaung Metro Municipality following the destruction of the Bloemfontein City Hall on Wednesday.

The ANC Regional Executive Committee says it has met with all parties the concerned to provide a solution on a way forward following a month long strike by members of the South African Municipal Workers' Union (SAMWU) in the municipality.

ANC Regional Secretary, Paseka Nompondo, says it has made recommendations to both parties which it hopes will bring an end to the labour dispute issues.

“The ANC has requested and instructed the municipality components sitting in the Local Labour Forum to convene a meeting within 48 hours to put into action the recommendations arrived at between the ANC, SAMWU and the municipality.”

Nompondo also says that Manguang residents are entitled to receive services by the municipality as the ongoing strike has brought a halt to some services.

Meanwhile the Free State Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs will request a meeting with the Metro and Samwu in an effort to bring stability to the area.

The head of the provincial department, Mokete Duma, says they hope to have the meeting as soon as possible.
