Kroonstad - The body of a 53-year-old businessman from Maokeng, Kroonstad, who was reported missing last Thursday flowing heavy rains in the area was found in a veld on Monday.

Police spokesperson, Ian Gaobepe, says Baai Koboue's body was found on Monday morning after a search by police members from Welkom, Bloemfontein and the Bethlehem Diving Unit started on Friday. The Welkom and Kroonstad K9 Unit, the police's air wing, members of the Moqhaka Local Municipality as well as local residents formed part of the search party.

Gaobepe says Koboue's bakkie was found abandoned late last Thursday. It is alleged that Koboue was in his bakkie and tried to cross an area where water was at a high level. Gaobepe says there are numerous low lying bridges over streams in Maokeng. Koboue was trying to cross one of these bridges when he was swept away in his bakkie by water.

Koboue’s body was found a few kilometres from the area where his bakkie was found on Thursday. Police have opened an inquest. Gaobepe says a post mortem will determine the cause of the death.

Kroonstad Cluster Commander, Mapulane Mbeloane applauded the brave efforts of the members who were part of the search and rescue teams.
