AG report damns Tlokwe Municipal Manager─── DANE BEISHEIM 15:49 Mon, 06 Mar 2017
Mahikeng - Unauthorised and wasteful expenditure in the Tlokwe Municipality in North West reportedly increased by 23% between the 2014/15 and 2015/16 financial years. This is according to the latest Auditor-General report.
As a result, the DA in the province has demanded that Municipal Manager, Nomathemba-Blaai Mokgethi, must pack her bags and leave. The party's Hans-Jurie Moolman says wastage has escalated to just under R845 500 000 under her management.
“The person ultimately responsible for this is the accounting officer or municipal manager, and all our endeavours to ask for intervention or to deal with the problem have been unanswered by the executive mayor. We are now demanding that she should resign; that she should take responsibility for the mess the municipality is in,” Moolman added.
The AG-report in question further indicated that the unemployment rate for the period had increased by 2,6% in the past year. It also highlighted illegal contracts for paraffin at double the regulated price, amounting to R58 million per year purchased.
