Two arrested for travelling over 200 km/h | News Article

Villiers - The Free State Provincial Traffic officers have arrested two people this weekend who were speeding at over 200 kilometres per hour in a 120 kilometre per hour zone on the N3 route.

The Provincial spokesperson, Kabelo Moloabi, says a 31-year-old Chinese man was arrested between Villiers and Warden yesterday for driving a Silver M/Benz C200 at a speed of 216 kilometres per hour, while on the same route near Villiers an Indian man was also arrested for driving a M/Benz at 217 kilometres per hour. Moloabi urges motorists to adhere to the speed limit set by the National Road Traffic Act.

“Everybody is aware that if we are not compliant to the speed limits, there might be a problem with regard to an accident. Like we know from this past festive season, we had a very high number of fatalities on our roads. So, let us please save our lives.”

Moloabi says the 31-year-old Chinese man was released on bail of R2 000 and will be appearing in the Warden Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 28 February 2017, while the 33-year-old Indian man also released on bail of R10 000 and is soon expected to appear in the Villiers Magistrate's Court.
