Poppie van der Merwe murder accused back in court─── DANE BEISHEIM 06:55 Tue, 21 Feb 2017
Brits - A man and his wife, who are accused of killing the woman's three-year-old daughter, are expected back in the Brits Magistrate's Court today.
Kobus and Louisa Koekemoer are facing charges of murder of Poppie van der Merwe on a farm near Mamogaleskraal outside Brits last year.
The pair appeared together for the first time at the end of January, when the court heard that the case would be transferred to the Pretoria High Court as soon as the investigation has been concluded.
Police escorted Kobus Koekemoer to court from a local hospital after he allegedly attempted suicide while in custody. North West police spokesperson Pelonomi Makau said at the time he was admitted to hospital after cutting his wrists with a razor blade.
Poppie was rushed to hospital on the evening of October 25 after allegedly having been severely assaulted. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at hospital.
