Potchefstroom - The defending Varsity Cup champions, the North West University Pukke rugby team, have the full support of the whole institution when they take on the Madibaz from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University tonight.

This is according to NWU Vice-Chancellor, Dan Kwagdi. He was speaking at a pep rally in the Potchefstroom campus amphitheater this afternoon.

Kwgadi said the university, which also boasts with middle-distance runner and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Caster Semenya on its athletics team, is going into the Varsity Cup hard on the heels of its netball and cricket teams’ respective Varsity victories.

“We are very proud of the vibrant student life we have here at the Potchefstroom campus, and we want this to go down through the rest of the NWU campuses,” Kgwadi added.

The champs face the visitors tonight at 19:00 at the Fanie du Toit sport grounds in Potchefstroom.

NWU has become the first University in South Africa to hold all three the major Varsity Sport titles in the same year.
