Daniëlskuil - The massive sinkhole in the Northern Cape near Daniëlskuil, next to the R31 road, has become a big attraction.

For days people have been stopping at this spot, checking out the sinkhole which is several meters deep and long. At the time of publication, OFM journalists Moeketsi Mogotsi and Mark Steenbok were at the sinkhole which is being described as "dangerous".

"The department of roads and public works in the province has closed the road between Danielskuil and Kuruman and urged the public to detour via the Postmasburg route, out of concerns that the 400m hole could stretch onto the road. The site was very quiet today, with only geologists and members of the department analysing the area. Conditions were very dry, with only the surface of the sinkhole visible to the eye. One of the farm owners, Andries van Zyl, says the last time he saw something of this magnitude was in 1988, when the ground had caved in in three different areas simultaneously. He adds that the community is not necessarily concerned about any immediate danger," said Mogotsi.
