Report on Bongani Hospital might be out soon─── CATHY DLODLO 07:31 Thu, 27 Oct 2016
Welkom - A report on the death of five babies in Welkom's Bongani Hospital, that rocked the already crippled health services in the Free State, could be released before the end of the year.
This follows after Health Ombudsman, Malegapuru Makgoba, said his office is busy finalising the investigation.
The investigation was initiated by the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC) a year ago and was then moved to the priority list of Makgoba’s office just days after his appointment.
The probable cause of death was indicated as Klebsiella, but this was denied by Free State Health.
During a meeting in Bloemfontein earlier this month, Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi said his department is awaiting the report.
He also called for an investigation into the reason why Universitas Academic Hospital has dropped to the last position on the list of 10 academic hospitals in the country. Motsoaledi said something horrible went wrong at the hospital – it used to be the top achiever in its category but ended up being the worst.
