FS hospital with poorest rating substitutes Albert Nzula Hospital─── CATHY DLODLO 15:51 Tue, 18 Oct 2016
Trompsburg - A Free State hospital that has been rated the worst in the country is delivering health services to patients in Xhariep, while a newly constructed hospital, just 70 kilometres away, has been gathering dust for more than three years.
A report published in April this year by the Office of Health Standards Compliance (OHSC), found that the Diamant District Hospital in Jagersfontein performed the worst during inspections at all hospitals countrywide.
Health MEC, Butana Komphela, says this hospital is, however, capable of handling the health care demands of the community.
The provincial health department has cited several reasons - such as a faulty sewerage system - for the delay in the opening of the R380 million Albert Nzula Hospital. Komphela said, in a written answer to a question in the legislature, that in drastic instances patients are transferred to Bloemfontein.
