Murder trial of former Bloemfontein police officer postponed─── 11:35 Mon, 30 May 2016
Bloemfontein - The murder trial of a former Bloemfontein police officer was postponed in the city's regional court on Monday.
Jaco du Toit is accused of shooting dead Michael Jacobs outside a pub in Bloemfontein in November 2014. Du Toit's legal counsel was sick on Monday and the court postponed the matter for two days to 19 September and 21 September.
Jacobs was shot five times outside Pub Stop bar after the pair allegedly became involved in a physical altercation.
A friend of the deceased, Monique Fourie, previously testified that she was not sure who threw the first punch. She also denied claims by Du Toit that Jacobs approached him with a beer bottle in his hand during the altercation. Du Toit also claimed that he was severely assaulted after the incident.
