One dead, one injured in shooting at Vaal mall parking area─── 11:30 Mon, 23 May 2016
Vanderbijlpark - One man was killed and another seriously injured after a shooting in the parking area of a mall on the R42 in the Vaal in the early hours of this morning.
At 03h20 this morning, ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene after receiving the emergency call of the shooting. Upon arrival, paramedics found a security vehicle in the parking area surrounded by a number of police officials.
On closer inspection, paramedics found the driver of the vehicle lying motionless in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his head. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his fatal injury and was declared dead on the scene. A second man was found lying outside the vehicle. The man was assessed and found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and he was in a serious condition.
ER24 and provincial paramedics immediately began their treatment and provided the patient with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the man was transported by provincial services to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The exact detail surrounding the shooting is not yet known but is subject to the investigation of local authorities.
