Bloemfontein - Police in Bloemfontein have launched an extensive manhunt after unknown suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash following a cash-in-transit robbery at the Central Park bus terminal in Bloemfontein on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson, Chaka Marope, says a G4S Cash Solutions staff member, who had collected a large amount of cash from the offices of a major bus company, was accosted by a group of armed men at around 10:30. The security guard was walking in the nearby mall, while his partner was waiting in the vehicle which was parked outside.
Marope says he was approached by a group of robbers from behind. One pointed a firearm at him and demanded that he lie down. The robbers then stripped the security guard of his own firearm and the three cash boxes. The robbers fled on foot through the mall into a taxi rank nearby.
Marope says no shots were fired during the incident. The security guard sustained slight injuries to the head and was taken to Life Rosepark Hospital for medical treatment.
No arrests have been made yet.
