Thaba Nchu - Two security guards were murdered after three unknown mn robbed a tavern in Thaba Nchu in the Free State last night.


It is alleged that the three suspects waited inside the tavern, located in the Ramakgari section, until the tavern closed its doors before they took out their firearms and demanded money.

Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, says the two security guards working at the tavern were shot, one in the back and the other in the head. They died on the scene.

Kareli says the 50-year old owner and her 64-year old husband were also critically wounded during the robbery.

Cases of murder, attempted murder and robbery have been opened.

“The female tavern owner was wounded in the abdomen and a shot also went through her left hand. She was rushed to a Bloemfontein private hospital in a very serious condition. The husband was shot in the right foot. Nobody has been arrested yet and we are appealing to anybody with information to contact the Thaba Nchu police.”
