Mangaung Metro insists Botshabelo residents invaded land | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Mangaung Metro Municipality has defended its decision to evict four families from Botshabelo outside Bloemfontein, allegedly without notice, and insists they are occupying the land illegally.

This despite a court granting an urgent application to the residents of Section H2 late yesterday giving them the right to return to what was their homes, and have their belongings returned to them.

Yesterday morning at around 05h00, four families were evicted, their homes demolished and their belongings confiscated by the Metro and law enforcement.

Metro spokesperson Qondile Khedama says the issue of land ownership in H2 has been dragging on since 2011.

Residents claim they bought the land from the municipality in 2010 and have proof thereof, while the municipality maintains they invaded the land.
