NWU council chairperson resigns─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 07:39 Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Potchefstroom - Chairperson of the North West University (NWU)’s Council, Peet van der Walt, has resigned with immediate effect.
Van der Walt says his resignation, after six years as chairperson, comes after he has been struggling with a leg injury and has been in and out of hospital for the past year.
He says his injury has prevented him from fully contributing to the NWU and performing his duties, especially with the university currently embarking on setting a new strategic direction.
Van der Walt served on the council since 2006 and was elected as chairperson in 2008. He was the third chairperson since the merger which brought about the establishment of the NWU in 2004.
The council’s deputy chairperson, Itumeleng Pooe, will act in this position.
