Bloemfontein - The trial of a Bloemfontein doctor accused of raping one of his patients is expected to begin in the city's Magistrate’s court today.
The accused, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was initially charged with two counts of rape but one of the charges was withdrawn at his last appearance.
The State said this was because it saw no prospect of a successful prosecution on that charge.
He is now facing one charge in connection with an alleged incident in May last year, when a patient accused him of raping her in his consulting room.
The former Kovsie student was previously fined abroad after he admitted to having a sexual relationship with an underage patient.
