Bloemfontein - One of two charges against a Bloemfontein doctor accused of raping two of his patients has been withdrawn.
The first allegation surfaced in October last year when a patient claimed she was assaulted in the doctor's consulting room.
This charge was withdrawn today in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s court with the State saying it saw no prospect of a successful prosecution.
The second charge stems from an alleged incident in May last year, also at the doctor's consulting room.
The accused, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, expressed happiness at the withdrawal of the charge.
He must appear in court again on 24 June when he will stand trial for the remaining charge.
The former Kovsie student was previously fined abroad after he admitted to having a sexual relationship with an underage patient.
