Cyclist dies at Clarens mountain bike event─── 08:15 Sun, 04 May 2014
Clarens - A cyclist died after participating in a mountain bike event in Clarens in the Freestate on Saturday, paramedics said.
Paramedics stationed at the finish line were called by another cyclist to assist the man.
"Apparently, the cyclist collapsed just 300 meters from the finish line," ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.
When paramedic assessed the man they found no signs of life.
"CPR and advance life support was performed on the man for 55 minutes," Meiring said.
Afterwards the man was declared dead.
"The cause of the incident is not yet known," he said.
