Bloemfontein - The owners of a wildlife estate outside Bloemfontein where a guest was attacked while feeding custard to lions say they are not willing to conduct further interviews on the matter.

Bagamoya Wildlife Estate owner Botha Barnard says it was an accident and they have nothing more to add to the media interviews already conducted. He says nothing will happen to the lion and that the custard feeding interactions will still be done with other groups of lions in future.

This after Jacobsdal Doctor Begbie Hunter was hospitalized and had to undergo surgery for debridement of bites and scratches to several parts of his body. Hunter says he does not intend taking further action against the estate but says he believes it was a wake-up call for everyone concerned.

Mediclinic Bloemfontein spokesperson Amanda Appelgryn confirmed that Hunter had been bitten and that the deep bites were dangerously close to his spine and carotid artery.

The Barnard’s were earlier quoted by as saying Hunter had not been bitten, only scratched.
