Griekwastad murder trial: Closing arguments expected─── LANI FOUCHÉ 07:40 Mon, 09 Dec 2013
Kimberley - Closing arguments are expected to begin in the case of a teenager accused of murdering the Steenkamp family on their farm in Griekwastad.
Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo postponed the case on November 27th, when closing arguments were initially due to be heard, without giving a reason for the decision.
The 17-year old boy is accused of murdering Deon Steenkamp, his wife Christel, and their daughter Marthella on their farm Naauwhoek, in April last year.
The State cross examined him for nearly three days before closing its case last month, and accused the boy of lying and continually changing his testimony.
Meanwhile Legal Aid attorney, Vinesh Naidu, says according to the Children's Act, the boy - who was 15 years old at the time of the murders - may not serve a life sentence.
Naidu explains what the maximum sentence could be, should the boy be found guilty on three charges of murder and one of rape.
