Kimberley - The ANC in the Northern Cape has announced the departure of party member and Speaker of the Legislature, Boeboe van Wyk.
Provincial secretary, Zamani Saul says in a statement that Van Wyk is being redeployed as mayor of the Namakhoi Local Municipality that includes the town of Springbok in the Namakwa region.
Saul thanked Van Wyk for work done over 17 years as a senior member of the ANC in the province. Van Wyk was previously ANC Chief Whip in the provincial legislature and also held MEC positions in the portfolios of local government and safety and liaison.
Saul says Gail Parker, who serves in the party’s communication team among other things, will fill the vacancy left by Van Wyk.
