Korkie book 'will hopefully inspire' | News Article

Bloemfontein - Pierre Korkie’s widow, Yolandé, hopes her autobiography, 558 Days, which is expected to be available soon at bookshops countrywide, will be a blessing to others.

Yolandé yesterday commemorated her release by Al-Qaeda on 10 January 2014 in Yemen. She was released without ransom after the couple was kidnapped in Taiz in May 2013.

The relief organisation, Gift of the Givers, successfully negotiated her release while Pierre remained in captivity. He was killed in December the same year after a failed operation by American Seals to release an American, held hostage with the former Grey College teacher from Bloemfontein. Yolandé believes people from all walks of life will be able to relate to her book.

“The book is also the fruit of our distress, whereby we hope it will be a blessing and encouragement to many.” She says it is a form of Bibliotherapy and a platform from where dialogue can emanate regarding topics like trauma, hostage taking, negotiations, ransom and suffering. Other themes are also available in the book.

Yolandé adds the book was definitely a form of therapy to her and their children. She believes it can serve the same purpose to others. The book, also available in Afrikaans, is expected to hit the shelves on February 20.
